I met Spock!
I was never a big fan of the original Star Trek Series. I don't think I've seen more than two episodes. But of all the characters I would want to meet, Spock would be the one. When several cons around that time announced that Patrick Stewart had to cancell his appearances, many people were justifiably dissapointed. However, for UFC Leonard Nimoy was definitely a worthy replacement! When I was a kid I was a huge fan of In Search Of. Loved that creepy stuff.

I had met up with a "friend of a friend" at this con so neither one of us would have to go it alone. She had convinced me to get in line for the photo op early. She was #2 in line, and I #3. One of the con managers had just finished prepping us for the ops; "please keep the conversation to hi, take the photo, and move along. We have 100 people to get through the line". Well my turn, and Mr. Nimoy asks me where I'm from. "I was born in Boston, like you Mr. Nimoy". So he starts a converstion with me about Boston. The con manager just had to laugh. Later on during the autograph session, the con manager said "I knew he was going to do that!".

Rachel is one of the sweetest actresses I've met at a con. During her Q&A panel, we found out she has a wonderful singing voice; a member of the audience got her to sing "Somewhere Under the Rainbow".

My dad was a big fan of Dr. Who. The "doctor" of my generation was Tom Baker, "the one with the scarf and curley hair". I had attended an Insider's Club gathering where some of the guests were present. Mr. McCoy was charming and hilarious. I got him to talk to my dad on the cellphone.

Mira had mentioned during the con that she was taking a Spanish class. I couldn't resist this opportunity to test her skills...

The first time I met Bob, I was at a Stargate convention in New Jersey with my son. We ended up at the same table for a celebrity breakfast. I found out he was a con manager for UFC; I told him I had attended "those cons" and was really impressed with the fan-friendly atmosphere. I then ran into him at UFC '04. Not long before this UFC, I had rented the video "Trekkies" and "Trekkies 2" and thought I saw him in it...confirmed when I went to this one and asked him.

I guess you know you've reached scifi fandom when you see at least one person you know in Trekkies. Oh yeah, he was the psychotherapist.
