I found a new best friend.
The mom of one of my son's friends who I had never met called me to set up a playdate for the two boys. She says to ME "this weekend is not good; you're going to think I'm crazy, but I'm going to a scifi convention this weekend". I just about dropped the phone. I made her repeat what she said. To which I reply, "oh, the one in New Jersey with the Farscape guests?". I think SHE dropped her phone.
I had just started watching Farscape the month before, when it was on scifi all day for several weeks. Thank heaven for DVRs. I had been tossing around the idea of going to that con, but I didn't want to go by myself, and didn't want to drag one of my kids along again.
So off we went, my new best friend and I. She is a HUGE fan of Ben Browder. I managed to talk her into the photo op, and it turned us into instant 12 year old girls.
I let her go first. "Hi, I'm Ben." He says to her. No, really? I had to crack up on that one.
Then it was my turn. I'll be darned, he shakes your hand and looks into you eyes and doesn't let go until they take the picture.
Now she's the diehard Farscape fan, and I'm the diehard Stargate SG1 fan. What luck, that less than two weeks after that day, we find out that Ben will now be a regular on Stargate SG1. And Claudia Black will be a guest star on several episodes. Must be my year. Our husbands think we're crazy. At least now I'm not the only one.
